The Lord Gives Wisdom

For the LORD gives wisdom; from his mouth come knowledge and understanding; he stores up sound wisdom for the upright; he is a shield to those who walk in integrity, guarding the paths of justice and watching over the way of his saints [Proverbs 2:6–8 ESV].

Wisdom can be acquired in many ways. It can be acquired through personal experience or the experience of others, among others. As believers, one way to receive wisdom stands out clearly — getting wisdom from the Lord.

God gives us pure and unadulterated wisdom in His Word. The wisdom of the world is limited and unreliable. God is the only one who knows everything, so it only makes sense to want to receive wisdom from the One who has been there since the beginning of everything. God is the One who wields all wisdom. He alone knows which decision will affect you and the extent to which it will. Predictions may not tell you much, neither will reading your horoscope, nor going to a fortune-teller or prophet.

That is not to say prophecy is wrong. But why not get closer to the source Himself? Why not entrust God with all your curiosity? Why not ask Him to give you the wisdom you need for your day-to-day living? Ask Him for His wisdom so that you do not end up countering all that He’s doing for you with your wrong choices. Ask Him for wisdom because He cares for you and wants what is best for you.

God is His Word, so it is safe to say that the Word of God is chock-full of wisdom. Do you want advice on something? Go to His word! His ways are above our ways and His thoughts, above our thoughts.

Fret not, God always knows best. Remember, everything will fade away but the Word of God, His wisdom, will remain forever and ever.

Heavenly Father, open our eyes to see the wisdom laid out in Your word, as we daily seek out wisdom from Your word.
