Desire Wisdom

Christ for Youth International

Search for them as you would for silver; seek them like hidden treasures. Then you will understand what it means to fear the Lord, and you will gain knowledge of God. [Proverbs 2:4–5 NLT]

In our quest to get wisdom, one thing we must do as believers, is to desire it with all of our hearts. Human beings are innately drawn to treasure-seeking activities. Usually, we are drawn to movies where the main character is seeking a treasure for the general good of the entire community rather than for selfish ambition. In the same manner, seeking wisdom is as honourable — if not more honourable — as seeking treasures for the good of others.

As believers, if we want to live a virtuous life, we must actively seek wisdom and understanding in the same manner that we would seek for a treasure. Seeking wisdom should not be done merely for personal gain, rather it should extend to the growth and development of all those that we come into contact with as believers.

The true goal of seeking wisdom is for spiritual growth through knowing God better. However, we must remember that it is not through our own abilities but rather wisdom is a gift of God. He rewards those who genuinely seek wisdom.

Wisdom will not just fall into our laps as believers. If it did, then it could easily fall into the wrong laps. Wisdom is a reward for those who work and seek it.

Dear Father, thank You for today. Thank You for Your grace. Help me to actively seek wisdom and understanding from you. Help us to also understand that it’s not by our own abilities but it’s by Your Word. In Jesus’ name I pray, Amen.
